As the Center’s director, Mitchell worked alongside numerous departments and committees, developing a program with the mission to support the university’s Black students and implement a Black studies education. During this time, Mitchell became professionally involved with a variety of mental health and social service organizations in the wider Rochester community, including Freedom, Independence, God, Honor, Today (FIGHT), the Margaret Woodbury Strong Committee, the Urban League, among others.
