A digitally remastered facsimile edition of Danny Lyon's seminal 1971 photobook, highly influential in the history of documentary photography. Heralded as a "masterpiece" by Martin Parr and Gerry Badger in 'The Photobook: A History Volume II'. Revolutionary in the 1970s, Lyon's record of life inside the Texas prison system was one of the first photobooks to include ephemera and has been out of print for over 40 years. A valuable collector's item, first edition hardbacks in good condition sell for over $1000, this edition has been updated with a new afterword by Danny Lyon. The growth of the prison population in the US - currently the largest in the world - and recent debate over the drugs used in carrying out the death penalty highlight the continued relevance of this book today.

Limited edition of 500 numbered copies. ; Woody's latest venture takes three forms--1.) a book with representations of each US state, visually constructed out of the letters in its name, 2.) a digital version of the book, and 3.) a text-to-speech realization of each state, read by a computerized voice, almost Pokemon-like. The resulting hypnotic sounds defy expectation. Woody's vision has produced a unique kind of contemporary found-art minimalism--Gold Bolus Recordings website, viewed on November 13, 2014. ; Printed by One Page Productions at Chooklyn Farms Studios ... All maps designed & typed by Woody Leslie on Microsoft Word (yes, we know, he's crazy) over the month of February, 2013--Cover page 2. ; Three signatures, hand-sewn with green thread into a paper wrapper (paper colors vary within edition). Title from prospectus. ; Altered book by Poppy Dully. Signed and dated by the artist on back paste-down. ; I found an 1956 Harper's Modern classic edition of Daisy Miller by Henry James which was first published in 1878. The 1974 film adaptation was directed by Peter Bogdanovich in 1974 with actor Cybil Shepherd. Daisy Miller is a coming of age portrait of 'the American girl' of the late 19th century. James portrayed her as the emancipated woman of her day ... using the film as my guide, I created 8 monotypes which briefly tell the story in the novella. I printed the monotypes with oil-based ink on the book pages. The monotype pages are glued on accordian folds and mounted to the original book cover--Prospectus.

Caption title. ; During my travels to cemeteries for several years I have photographed over five thousand last names on headstones that are parts of speech ... The inspiration to write my version of the Inferno occurred to me after I located the surnames Dante, Virgil and Styx. I had already found Beatrice, Heaven and Hell. What followed were months of reading translations and summaries and beginning to write my adaptation. Next the photographs were edited for clarity. In addition to being symbolic and sophisticated, Dante's journey down through the nine circles is graphic. I have tried to keep my version simple enough for the first time reader, while recounting his progress as accurately as my limited collection of words would allow--Colophon on envelope.
