To the Editor:
Last year the Gay Academic Union was founded to give gay men and women at the UR an opportunity to meet, socialize, and share their concerns. And it bombed.
Although there were plenty of reasons for its failure, it was never because the GAU wasn't badly needed on this campus. So we're going to give it another shot.
Next Tuesday, September 21, all members of the UR gay community are invited to come by Psychology 303 at 9 pm to help us resurrect the GAU and talk about what went wrong last year and what should happen this year.
If you're new on campus or weren't ready for the GAU last year, come by and meet your fellow gay students and give us some input about what kind of organization you'd like to see.
If you went to one or two of the meetings last year and came away disappointed (you weren't alone), please come and tell us what you think the GAU should be about.
As always, there's no obligation to "come out" in order to participate in the GAU—we've
all been there, so your desire for discretion will be respected.
We all know we need the Gay Academic Union at the UR. Now let's figure out how to do it.
Hope to see you next Tuesday.
